Small Market Baseball Teams vs. Big Market Baseball Teams
I have come today to address the issue of the struggle of small market baseball teams like the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals against mighty big market teams like the New York Yankees.

I think that the struggle between the two sides is unfair. Small market teams earn less money, therefore, they can’t afford to pay their star players, and they have to trade them away to teams that can afford to hold onto them.

The results hurt the team. Look at the New York Mets. They couldn’t afford to hold onto Jose Reyes and last year, their pitching staff fell apart and the Mets went 73-89 without decent pitching. The Mets were forced to use starters like Mike Pelfrey and R.A. Dickey, as well as Chris Caupano. Meanwhile,  their crosstown rival, the New York Yankees, had dominant pitchers on the mound like C.C. Sabathia and star closer Marino Riviera. Because they are a big market team and can afford to hold on to their star players, the Yankees went 97-65.
The Kansas City Royals are another example of the struggle between bigs and smalls. The Royals have had only one star at his prime with the Royals in their history- George Brett. Brett is now in the baseball hall of fame in Cooperstown, New York.
However, the glory days of the Royals are now gone. The Royals hit bottom trying to win their division, the AL Central, and finished 2011 with a 71-91 record, good for only third place.

I think that we should make baseball fair by having the total salary increase for these small market teams. Let’s make baseball fair!
